What actually goes in a Will?

Published: 11 July 2026

A will isn't just one line about who gets the house. These are the decisions worth putting in writing.

  1. Someone to carry it out
  2. Your executor makes sure everything in your will actually happens, so choose someone you trust to handle it.

  3. A guardian for your children
  4. If you have kids under 18, name who you'd want caring for them if you weren't able to.

  5. Who gets what
  6. List your home, savings, super and belongings, then decide who receives each one.

  7. Care for your pets
  8. Pets are treated like family. Name a carer and set aside something for their upkeep.

  9. Your digital accounts
  10. Note your social media, subscriptions and online accounts so they can be closed or passed on.

  11. Anything you missed
  12. A simple line covering "everything else" makes sure nothing is left in limbo. Rules on this vary a little by state, so Gaia tailors the wording to where you live.
