How AI can help with end-of-life tasks

Writing a eulogy with Gaia's Eulogy Writer

When someone dies, there's a lot to write and organise, often while you're exhausted. AI tools can take on some of that load, so you have more time and energy for the people around you.

What can AI help with?

  • A eulogy. You share memories, qualities and stories. AI helps turn them into a first draft you can shape in your own words.
  • A Will. A guided Will builder asks simple questions and turns your answers into a document.
  • A death notice. AI can draft versions for a newspaper, social media or an email to friends.
  • Checklists. It can turn a long list of jobs into a simple order, week by week.
  • Hard emails. It can draft a first version of a message to a bank, an employer or a super fund.

Where should people stay in charge?

  • Medical questions. Talk to a doctor or nurse.
  • Complex legal situations. Blended families, businesses, trusts or overseas property need a solicitor.
  • Your grief. A chat window isn't a counsellor. For support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Griefline on 1300 845 745.

Tips for using AI well

  1. Treat it as a first draft. You know your person. Change anything that doesn't sound like them.
  2. Check the facts. Names, dates and places matter. Read everything before you share it.
  3. Share only what's needed. Leave out details like bank numbers or passwords.
  4. Try again. Adding one more memory or detail often makes the next draft feel much more personal.

Common questions

No. It helps with writing and organising. The care, the ceremony and expert advice still come from people.
